Principal’s Message

Dear Parents/Guardians,

Wow! What a busy, yet wonderful term it has been! Some of this term’s events include the Year 8 incursion Diversity in the Muslim Community: Challenges and Opportunities, The Wizard of Oz school production, Career Development’s VTAC Info Session, Daffodil Day fundraising events, Science Week and Book Week activities, Inter-school Debating Competitions, the "Keep your school clean" poster competition, Mental Health Week Activities, Music Concert Night, IFLC preparations and other exciting excursions, which have all provided the opportunity to promote life-long learning skills.

On the 7th of August 2019, more than 40 parents and 60 Year 12 students attended the VTAC info session that ran from 7:00 to 8:30pm. Parents and students said they found the whole program very useful. When I started working here, I realised that career development is one of the strongest areas of Sirius College. A huge thanks to Scott and Esma for their hard work and dedication.

We celebrated ‘RUOK? Day’ and Mental Health Week with several whole-school activities, including teacher-led activities during D.E.A.R. time in Week 9. The aim is to reduce the stigma around mental health and to promote help-seeking behaviour. I would like to thank Denise, Gonul and Eda for organising all these activities and all teachers for running these activities with their students.

Our Art teacher, Ms Hisu Lee, and the Environmental Awareness Committee organised a "Keep our school clean" poster competition to raise awareness about caring for the environment around our school. The winner, Reem El-Daouk from Year 12 was announced in Week 10’s Friday whole school assembly and her poster design will be displayed around the school in Term 4. I would like to thank Ms Hisu Lee for organising this and all students who participated in this very meaningful competition.

Colours of the World - International Festival of Language & Culture (IFLC): I would like to remind you all about Colours of the World 2019. Sirius College is proud to be co-hosting this spectacular event for the third time! It would be an absolute pleasure to see our students and families join us in this diverse, cultural event. We cordially invite you and your family to the 17th International Festival of Language & Culture (IFLC) to be held on Saturday 26th October 2019 at the Melbourne Convention and Exhibition Centre (MCEC).

The tickets can be purchased through the official IFLC website at the link below.
